1.) a blog post 📋 to change how you see your kids later today.
The Tail End by Tim Urban. If you haven’t read this short blog post, do not skip it.
I promise, that when you look up from reading it, you will view the world (and your kids) differently.
Visualizing how finite our lives are is scary. But it’s also an incredible gift - a reminder that there is a last time for everything you do. And when you know something will end, you can truly enjoy it.
Try applying this to your kids.
Because there will be a last time they ask to hold your hand.
There will be a last time you change a diaper (maybe you’re counting down to this one).
There will be a last time you pick them up.
A last time they call “animals”, “aminals”.
A last time they are amazed by the trash truck.
Knowing these things will end allows us to start truly appreciating them.
2.) a book 📚 to change the way you think about learning
The Learning Game by Ana Lorena Fábrega.
Ana is a former teacher working to rebuild the education system in a way that maintains children’s natural love for learning, something most schools fail at. I found her through her fantastic newsletter (my favorite was on managing screen time). The book distills her newsletter ideas into a short, easy read.
She works from first principles - i.e. how do humans best learn? - and has revolutionized how I think about my child’s educational future.
3.) a quote 💬 on what matters for happiness.
“Happiness is not a result of the events in your life. In fact, the events are kind of irrelevant. Happiness is about how you think about the events in your life.”
4.) a video 🎥 on who Matthew McConaughey chases every day.
Someone shared this with me a few weeks ago. McConaughey is some species of magical, fantastical creature.
I love how he tells stories. I love his example as a successful man who is also a successful father and husband.
And I love wisdom like the nugget he drops in this speech on who he chases each day.
