[antifragile 4 π₯] the value of NO with Scott Galloway, satisfaction before and after, the ever-growing X dollar, a new cellphone law in Virginia
#46: a weekly 4-item newsletter created to inspire dads to use the challenges of fatherhood as fuel for building an incredible life & an antifragile mind.
Welcome to the 46th edition of the antifragile 4 π₯.
Itβs a weekly 4-item newsletter created to inspire dads to use the challenges of fatherhood as fuel for building an incredible life & an antifragile mind. Some weeks will have a theme, others will meander. Expect it every Friday.

πΈ 50-Word Dad Life Snapshot: It poured on Tuesday. Both literally and figuratively. Our child care unexpectedly evaporated thanks to an illness. It was...one of those days.
But a day that ends pitching to your 2-year-old as he cranks baseballs in the rain is one I wouldn't trade anything for.
β
Here is this weekβs antifragile 4 π₯:
the value of getting to NO π« with Scott Galloway
Brooke Castillo on satisfaction π before and after a decision
Tim Ferriss ππ° on how most people work until death

1.) the value of getting to NO π« with Scott Galloway
(Start at 59:00)
What is the key to success?
No.
Scott Galloway
Becoming comfortable with rejection is a superpower, and I want to instill it in my boys.
Whether it be finding a potential mate, working on ambitious projects or designing your lifestyle, the roads to the biggest rewards are strewn with the corpses of Noβs.
How comfortable you are with those Noβs is a big indicator of how much fun your life can be.
Itβs a skill Iβm still very much working on myself.
2.) Brooke Castillo on satisfaction π before and after a decision
Iβve previously shared Brooke Castilloβs episode on being decisive, but thereβs an important nuance thatβs worth calling out.
(This quote isnβt itβ¦but it was too good not to includeβ¦)
Not making a decision is also a decision.
Brooke Castille
She talks about the importance of being satisfied both before and after whatever decision youβre making. This is a powerful concept.
It removes your satisfaction from the decision calculus. Youβre going to be satisfied regardless of the result.
This frees you up to move from one interesting decision to the next, leaving the emotional baggage at the door.
Experiment. Experiment. Experiment. Staying satisfied throughout.
That is another superpower.
3.) Tim Ferriss ππ° on how most people work until death
This is how most people work until death; βIβll just work until I have X dollars and then do what I want.β
If you donβt define the βwhat I wantβ alternate activities, the X [dollar] figure will increase indefinitely to avoid the fear-inducing uncertainty of this void.
Tim Ferriss, Four Hour Work Week
Why canβt you do what you want right now?
But (hereβs the kicker)β¦.do you know what you actually want?
4.) a new cellphone π± law in Virginia
We typically keep the news out of this newsletter, but this is important.
These types of laws lay the foundation for our kids being able to develop outside the grip of addictive technology, the evidence against which is increasingly damning.
Hereβs just a few:
Nearly 50% of teenagers claim to be online constantly during their waking hours
Teens who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media double their risk of experiencing mental health issues like anxiety and depression
High screen use in young children is linked to delayed development of executive function, including self-regulation, decision-making, and impulse control.
Iβm no Luddite, but unregulated technology bingeing hurts developing brains. Itβs a parenting priority of mine, and Iβm glad to see action being taken on it in schools.

βteen asking a girl out, getting rejected and feeling good about it.β
(I initially corrected the speech bubblesβ¦but thereβs something nice about letting the lunacy of AI art shine)
Two last things for you this week:
Ask someone something you know theyβll say no to. Try to enjoy it.
Be fire and wish for the wind π₯
With love,
Chris
